Julian is the Bomb!
It has been a while since I've read these teenage horror stories but Ms. Smith's Daughters of Darkness has started me up again. I finally read the Hunter and I think it was a great book and now I am starting on the second one. I think Jenny was a dork to leave Julian, and on top of that, for Tom! Oh, well, that's life in an LJ Smith book. I also want to say her vampire diaries and secret circle and her night world series are also very good and should be read, too.

The Forbidden Game
Wow! Reading the reviews i was amazed! i didn't think before i'd read them that anyone else had fallen for a character in a book but oh my, Julian! wow he's just the perfect man, and i did imagine myself as Jenny. How great it would have been for a shadow man to cross over to earth just to get you to love him. I would have gone with him, it's like L J Smith's words had seduced the minds of the readers into this extrordinary fixation with this beautiful boy, Julian.
I absolutely loved the books to bits and sometimes when i'm out and i'll see something it reminds me of the book and i get this feeling and remember the fun i had readin them! So guyz, gals everyone. It doesn't cost an awful lot so why not buy it...you'll be surprised at how right us reviewers are about Julian!
thanks for reading

Fantasy comes to Life!
It is truly amazing... this series blew me away when I first read it. I had heard fabulous things about it, but never expected them to be more then true! It is a darker side of the fantastical realm, but it is sheer genius in concept. Who hasn't had that tingly feeling they are being watched or feared that some day their worst nightmares may come true. Julian is an flawless demonstration of an unforgettable villain who is desperately struggling between his natural corruption and his love for Jenny. Jenny, the innocent heroine, who is pulled in two between her morality and Julian's ruthless attraction. Both trapped in a deadly game of dreams and nightmares. You cannot read this and not be challenged, rethinking your standards and questioning your strongest beliefs. So who made the right choice? Only you can decide. So take time out to read this book and just let your imagination soar and your fears come alive. The World of Shadows and all it's wonders await...

Most complete water resource modelling book ever written...
This is not your ordinary professional textbook. I normally use these type of books to help me sleep at night, but I find myself reading the chapter after chapter of this Advanced Water Distribution Book. It is more than a reference textbook with it's history timelines, cartoons, practical problem sets, interesting tidbits of info, and so forth. I especially enjoyed the chapters on transients, GIS, and Water Quality.

Wow!
This book is extremely thorough in its coverage of all things concerning water distribution modeling. Although this book is a little intimidating in size, the material is easy to digest and quite enjoyable. The breadth of the material is astounding. This book takes you from the very fundamentals of water distribution modeling to advanced topics such as GIS and Transients.

This is a very well put together book that is well worth the cost. It is going remain on my bookshelf for a very long time.

Review of Advanced Water Dist Modeling and Management
Hastead Method's new book entitled Advanced Water Distribution System Modeling and Management is an excellent expansion and extension of its previous book, Water Distribution Modeling. I found the previous book extremely helpful and utilized it many times in my work. The new voulme has been expanded to inculde such important topics as: model skeletonization, demand allocation using GIS, water quality sampling and calibration, integration of modeling and SCADA systems, Genetic-algorithm-based calibration and design, modeling of variable-speed pumps, water system security and hydraulic transients, use of flow emitters and the integration 0f GIS with hydraulic modelng. I expect to use this new text extensively and stongly reccomend it to both beginning and experienced engineers.

The Complete Films of Vincent Price
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (1998)
Authors: Lucy Chase Williams and Vincent Price
Average review score:

The Complete Films - And More!
The first part of this coffee-table sized book gives an overview of Vincent Price's life, as well as his career. Obviously not a believer in reincarnation, this section concludes with a quote from Vincent Price himself. "You only get one time around, so why waste a minute of this glorious life?" The remainder of this book discusses every feature film connected with Vincent Price, whether he was the star, co-star, narrator, had a brief cameo or did the voice of an animated character. All 100 entries give the release date of the film, the film studio that made the picture, the running time, whether it was filmed in black and white or color, the cast, the director, the producer, the writer, etc. The next section gives a synopsis of the plot, sometimes followed by quotes from the man himself or other actors appearing in the film, and all concluding with contemporary reviews of the movie. Each entry has at least one photo from the actual film or a candid picture taken on the film set or, at the very least, the accompanying movie poster. Two things struck me while reading this book. One, Vincent Price was a versatile actor who excelled in every genre of film he appeared in, not just horror movies. Two, every actor quoted mentioned his wicked sense of humor, how great he was to get along with, and his professionalism. Of the latter, Gregory Peck summed it up best. "You get a bad piece of material, you do everything you can to improve it...That's what you're supposed to do. That's what Vincent did. I'm sure that he never, in his life, phoned it in, so to speak, or did less than his utmost best..." If you're looking for a book that dishes dirt and recounts gossip, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a comprehensive book of all of Vincent Price's movies, look no further.

The best book on Vincent Price
Fans of Vincent Price have much to rejoice over in The Complete Films of Vincent Price. It's hard to believe that for the first time a book provides not only COMPLETE coverage of each of his feature films, but also a wonderful 50+ page biography of the man we loved to have scare us.

In each of the feature film summaries, author Lucy Chase Williams not only gives us complete cast and credit listings, but also charming ancedotes provided by fellow cast members. This distinguished list includes Charlton Heston, Angela Lansbury, Jane Russell, Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck, and many, many others.

But what really makes this book a joy for all Vincent fans is the biography. Almost everyone only thinks of Vincent Price as "that horror film actor", but he was so much more than that. Williams warmly reveals Price as the well-known, well-schooled, down-to-earth human being his fans knew him to be. We see the art lover, the fine cook, the author, the "special guest star" on HUNDREDS of television series, and... the practical joker who knew how to enjoy life and have fun.

The Complete Films of Vincent Price is a wonderful book. More appropriately, it is The COMPLETE Vincent Price. The multi-faceted gentleman everyone should get to know.

Finest of "The Film's of" series
Vincent Price transended his film roles with great intelligence, sensitivity and charm, and at the same time could project the foulist of villians with merely a raised eyebrow. This wonderful book by Lucy Chase Williams captures every single film Price did. It's profusely illustrated with many rare stills (several from my personal collection as I was a contributor)and quite a few color pages. No finer book exists on Price's film work. This book is an absolute must for film lovers of the the golden years of hollywood and lovers of film macabre!

an absolute delight!
why, oh why hasn't this book been "rediscovered" by a publisher, and put back on the shelves?

my boyfriend's mom lent me her copy to read to the little girls i nanny. (it was her favorite book as a child, i'm 28). well, i picked it up myself, began reading, and couldn't put it down! what a clever story.

so many children dream of secret worlds existing just beyond the next wall, or over the hill, or under the streets- and this book-with it's good and naughty children, tiny doll people world, and one very odd neighbor- lives up to and beyond the expectations any child might have about hidden, magical places.

publishing houses- bring back this book, along with the other children's book she wrote- loretta mason potts should be reborn on the bookshelves! it's sad that one would have to pay almost $[amount] to buy her fiction, but it also shows how treasured it is!

i'm so curious about the witch book she wrote! maybe one day i'll luck out and find it somewhere (and pay a reasonable price for it)!

We have been looking for it for years to reread as adults.
My sister and I both (without the other's knowledge) have been remembering our experience as children when I read this book aloud in its entirety to my younger sister. We have both searched for it with no success and decided to look in Amazon.com. We were amazed not only to find this book, but to find so many reviews by other sisters who read it as children, loved it, and had such long-lasting memories of this delightful, fantasy of a young girl with a tunnel to a fantasy land in her closet. We can't wait to get this book and read it again and will probably recommend it to our young nieces. It was so much fun reading all of the reviews because they were as if we had written them ourselves. This book has given my sister and I wonderful, warm memories of a charming childhood experience.

So thrilled I could hardly get to sleep!
I, too, thought I had dreamt up this book, as I could remember it from about 35 years ago but couldn't find it...only trouble was, all these years I'd been looking for "Laura Mason Potts." Google finally found it, even with my error. I discovered it late last night & was so thrilled I could hardly get to sleep! I loved the other reviews; I also remember curling up with this book by the Christmas tree; I remember the boy was named Colin, and the mother wished to "fly away" with her children - my own wish quite often..haven't re-read it yet but can't wait. Such a joy! Will have my own middle-school children & 11-yr. old niece read it! Other authors from my childhood to recommend: Catherine Woolley, Elizabeth Enright, Beverly Cleary, Edward Eager, Eleanor Estes, Mary Norton. So many great books from that time (60's). If you're blue, read "Rufus M." by Eleanor Estes, no matter your age - you'll love it! Well, I'm just so so happy to have found Loretta Mason Potts, and happy that others out there loved this book like I did! Restores my faith in people, in the current cesspool of our culture!!!

I'd buy this used, if you must buy it.
I've read four of Fiona Walker's novels and truly liked three (French Relations, Well Groomed, and Snap Happy). To be honest, I had a very hard time slogging through Kiss Chase. The basic premise is just too, too far fetched and I really doubt that anyone would actually act this way. I will admit that Walker redeems herself in the last 50 pages - too bad she couldn't have taken that care with the rest of the book.

fiona walker is a gem!
i've read all of fiona walker's books and i just can't wait for her next book! the characters she moulded in the stories are very real and so very detailed, that you can really laugh and cry with them. "kiss chase" is definitely her best...you would really feel for freddy and felix and they way they love each other.

MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE!
I read this book last summer...and couldn't stop thinking about it till this summer!!... I am in desperate need for another Fiona Walker book!! I've read them all...does anyone know if she's writing another book soon... "Snap Happy" was the last one i read.. Her books take u emotionally to another wacky world!

Fast paced, suspenseful, captivating thriller.
Anyone who has not read his books has a literary void in their life. I have worn out many a seat edge reading his books. His command of the language, his ability to put you smack in the middle of the action, his humour everything, is outstanding! The President of the US should declare an Executive Order to command his books be put back in print. I own several books, and in my opinion, he's the leader of the pack and not the mongrel sitting on the porch. James Hadley Chase is "The Man!!"

Incredibly good plot, which is thrilling all the way!
James Hadley Chase is the king of crime fiction! Believe me. He is my hero when it comes to story-telling. His stories are full of suspenses and thrill. He tells stories that are beyong your wildest imagination. Boy! what an author. I can't understand why his books are no longer printed. are all the publishers blind? James Hadley Chase is number one. You might say what about Christe Agathy and Sidney Sheldon. Well, they cannot even come close to him. Every page in his books is thrilling and fun. man! I wish you read them. Does anyone want to exchange his books with me. I have a collection of him.

James Hadley Chase is the KING.............
My Dear fellow Chase Fans:
We all know what a great writer he was, we have read all of his books. Most of us are so disappointed that his books are not widely available in North America.

We all need to start a users/readers/group online. So we all can appreciate him together and let others know what they are missing.

I read his all of his books back in 80s in Asia. Now I am trying to find them in North America and Can not find all of them.
I want to buy all of his books for collection, but no one knows him in North America.

My salute to all of Hadely fans, lets get together online and celebrate one of the best crime writer in the history.

Thanks, Art. ...

Prairyerth (A Deep Map)
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (October, 1991)
Author: William Least Heat-Moon
Average review score:

Toto, we are definitely in Kansas.
Where Blue Highways sprawled across the continental United States in a macro-view of America, William Least Heat-Moon reverses the lens and concentrates on (mostly) walking and (sometimes) driving a tiny subsection of the USA: Chase County, in the Flint Hills of eastern Kansas. The people he meets--the old timers who've seen the river rise and fall and mined the quarries, the feminist restauranteur, the female ranchers determined to succeed in the face of declining small-farm agriculture and chauvinism--are people who might make unlikely subjects for straight fiction, but Least Heat-Moon's gift is to make us care about their personal stories and worries anyway. The ecological, social, and political sides of Chase--and the personal issues and flights of fancy of the author's psyche--come into sharp focus under Least Heat-Moon's eye, which misses little; and his writing is clear enough to make you forget that you're reading something fascinating about something commonplace. The kind of book to make you wish the author was just a little more prolific

I DON'T BELIEVE I COULD BE SO FASCINATED WITH ONE COUNTY
Having read BLUE HIGHWAYS several years ago I was excited when PRAIRYERTH came out and couldn't wait to read it. Even though itwas a huge book of about a thousand pages, my admiration for William Least Heat Moon was such that I knew I wanted to read this book.

When I began to realize we were never going to leave one county in Kansas I was already near the end of the book and wished that it wouldn't end.

I don't recommend this book to casual readers, for I think they will miss the beauty and fascination contained in these pages. But for those who love poetry and the sheer beauty of words mixed in with simplicity of spirit in story telling, there are few books that can come close to this one. I also have read RIVER HORSE and am hoping that William Least Heat Moon is writing his fourth book as I write these words!

From Chase County, Kansas
I first picked up this book when a job change brought us into the Tallgrass Prairie region of Kansas. As it turns out, we settled in Cottonwood Falls, Chase County, Kansas! It was extraordinary to read PrairyErth, knowing that we would soon be experiencing this place first-hand.

There is truly nothing like living in this community and experiencing the sights, places and people described so richly in PrairyErth. William Least Heat-Moon knows this place well, and paints a picture that is as vivid and timeless as Chase County itself. As a "local", I've returned to this book time and time again.

Unfortunately, my job is now taking us away from here. If you've read the passage about Spring Street in Cottonwood Falls, then you know our home. This is truly a beautiful and extraordinary place; unique in the world. If you would like to experience the sense of community that my family and I have been so blessed with, give me a call.

Lord of Scoundrels

I SHOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY.......................THIS BOOK
This is probably one of the best Romances I have ever read. Usually, I am quite picky and critical. I rarely gush over a book. LOS certainly deserves its place among the most popular Romances ever written. Ms Chases writing style is awesome, although sometimes I had to reread certain parts to catch the "point". Don't get me wrong, my command of the English language is fairly good and I NEVER have to do that; I even needed *gasp* my dictionary once or twice. Jess and Dain are great. Their romance sizzles and sparkles right from the page. I was entranced. Both personalities are extremely well developed. I agree that Jess is the perfect heroine (almost too good to be true). I adored her from the moment she walked into her brother's apartment and put her feet on his table; I wish I could manage my brother the same way she does hers ;-). She was sooo cool (for lack of better words). All the way I was expecting that she would forget about everything (especially that she has a brain and common sense) and succumb to Dain because of his kisses, overwhelming emotions etc. ....well you get the point; It happens more often than not in romances. But what a surprise, she didn't, never. She always made her point clear and didn't waver. There are no words to describe the repartee accurately (my definition of the word "witty" had to be revised). Yet, even when they were bickering (which they do a lot), called each other names and exercised sarcasm to no end one could always feel the affection they had for each other. Well done Ms Chase.

One fair warning: LOS spoilt me severely for any Romances I have read and will read subsequently (Some of which I am sure I would have enjoyed thoroughly before). Nothing seems to measure up.

I will definitely reread LOS several times and am sure I will enjoy it just as much. Please forgive me for gushing after all but I couldn't help it, it's well deserved indeed.

Lord of Scoundrels Meets His Match!
One of my all-time favorite romances, and if you could see my book room, you'd understand the strength of that recommendation. Tortured hero who's an unapologetic rake and never claimed to be a "gentleman" meets his match in the fiery Jessica Trent. He compromises her then refuses to marry her, and she takes matters into her own hands in a scene that had me laughing till my sides ached! So why is it that this robust, virile womanizer can't seem to consummate his marriage? You'll have to read it to find out, but you'll take great pleasure in this fabulous journey. A must-read for anyone looking for complex characters, thoroughly interesting plot, mouth-watering love scenes and, with the ending, a sense that all is right with the world. Excellent!

This is THE ONE...
I have read hundreds of romance novels. I have my share of favorite authors and have seldom ventured on the untried ones. I have never done any review of any single book because I have yet to find one I can call as THE ONE, which is worth the time and the effort to give praise to an author for a romance book that's superbly done. It takes a real good book to write a review. The Lord of Scoundrels in THE ONE.

I bought this book, my first of Loretta Chase, on the strength of the reviews in the amazon.com site and I am very happy I did. It is lush, witty, entertaining and very sensual- the elements romance readers look for in a book worth to be in a keeper's shelf. No complicated plot but with very good, characterizations, witty dialogues and unforgettable scenes that make the book worth keeping.

Dialogue sparkles and sparks fly between the two main characters: Lord Dain, the dark, tortured reprobate, who had very little opinion of himself but who was hopelessly besotted with the "needle-tongued, conceited, provoking ape leader of a lady" and Jessica, the beautiful, strong-minded, sensuous spinster who in her words declared "I've been in lust with you from the moment I met you". The sizzling verbal fights are very captivating. The "animal lust" and the deep desire for conquest and possession just leap off the pages to keep the reader enthralled. Lord Dain's use of the endearments in Italian during their very intimate moments makes the story even more romantic and titillating. But wait, please let me include the notorious punchline, "I should like to see you try".

When I finished the book, I read it again and again and then again most especially some of the very poignant, even hilarious and totally comical scenes, i.e. the preconceived notions of Lord Belzeebub about the "carnage he thought his overwroght imagination had pictured" in bedding his virgin wife. You will find yourself smiling and later laughing out so loud. And of course their romantic and passionate encounters are original and unforgetable they are so totally hot, hot, hot!!!

Scenes like the unbutonning of the gloves, the lamppost incident, Lady Wallingdon's party, the Hyde Park with Jessica on Lord Dain's lap, the brawl with Ainswood, they are so vivid and well played out that you will in turn even fantasize some more scenes of your own of Lord Dain and Jessica!

There are two scorchingly sensual and highly erotic highlights in the book that romance reader will remember:
1. The showdown between Lord Dain and Jessica barely three days wed
2. The boxing bout they attended that culminated in Jessica's declaration of her love for Sebastian again and again while against the pillar in a burial ground attached to a tiny crumbling church.

But of course, who will ever forget the way Jessica sought satisfaction for the very scandalously compromising and public position he put her in: "her bodice undone and sagging to the waist, his tongue down her throat, his filthy hand up her skirt?"

I totally agree with Lord Dain's rumination while leisurely taking his bath after successfully "tumbling" his wife,"Since the Almighty had not done him a single act of kindness in at least twenty-five years, Dain thought it was about bloody time...."

Yes, the Lord of Scoundrels, the dark and tortured Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain deserves the beautiful, virginal and passionate Jessica Trent.

To Ms. Loretta Chase, your Lord of Scoundrels is absolutely WONDERFUL! It is an absolute MUST for romance readers.

Water Distribution Modeling
Published in Hardcover by Haestad Press (01 April, 2001)
Authors: Haestad Methods, Donald V. Chase, Dragan A. Savic, and Thomas M. Walski
Average review score:

Water Distribution Modeling
The intended audience appears to be students, consultants and municipalities. It is a handy text useful as a review of hydraulic principles and is presented like a text book on hydraulic modeling. It seems particularly well suited for individuals just learning how to model water distribution systems.

Many books written on the subject of computer modeling are written in reference to address specific issues or are prepared by or for the acedamia community and presented in a complex manner. This book covers a wide range of subjects that water distribution modelers typically face in day to day practice. It is written from an engineering perspective, however the concepts are presented in a simplified manner that non-engineering personnel can understand.

I found the simplified presentation of the subject matter to be somewhat sophmoric, which limits the use of the text to fairly simple concepts. However, the range of subjects covered is broad and the concepts presented are accurate. I use the book to get ideas on how to approach modeling different hydraulic elements in municipal water systems.

All in all this is a good reference book to have on hand. I recommend it.

A Complete Guide to Water Distribution Modeling
Water Distribution Modeling shows why Drs. Walski, Chase, and Savic are considered among the foremost experts in water distribution modeling. The book provides essential information for modelers at all levels of expertise - students, beginners, as well as experienced engineers. Water Distribution Modeling can serve as a college-level textbook or as a bookshelf reference manual.

Walski, Chase and Savic have authored a complete guide to water distribution modeling. All aspects of model development are covered, from basic modeling and hydraulic concepts to more complex issues such as extended period simulations and water quality. The presentation is focused, direct, and understandable. The organization of the book allows a reader to quickly locate specific information without searching through pages of unrelated materials. Basic modeling tasks are explained without "talking down" to the reader. Advanced concepts are described in a clear, common-sense manner that even a first-time modeler can easily understand.

Water Distribution Modeling is a hydraulics textbook, but differs from other hydraulics books in that it is oriented to modeling. The explanations of building and calibrating models recognize actual mapping limitations, field data availability, and monitoring equipment capabilities. The procedures provided therefore apply to the "real world." This same real-world approach is used in the presentation of typical modeling analyses and design applications.

In summary, Water Distribution Modeling is a complete reference for water distribution modelers. It is well worth a thorough review.

A POWERFUL ASSISTANT IN HYDRAULIC MODELING
The book is excellent, very well structured, the information are accessible to all, the explanations are very detailed. The authors reached a perfect harmony between the theory and the practice.

The mission of writing a book accessible and very complete text in modeling of the systems of distribution of water was executed with success by the team of Haestad Methods. I congratulate the investigators Thomas Walski, Donald Chase and Dragan Savic for his excellent acting presented in the Distribution of book "Water Distribution Modeling". The book written by these great masters represents a historical mark in the international literature of the hydraulic modeling. The reading of this publication is obligatory for investigators, teachers, students and professionals that work in this area.

My suggestion for the next edition is the enlargement with larger depth of the discussion in certain themes that I consider extremely important. Maybe these themes could be included at the end of the work with the detailed deductions of the main formulas used in the hydraulic modeling as well as the historical references of her development (including the scientists that developed the formulas). A lot of people that use these formulas ignore their origin, development and limitations. I believe certainly that this would increase the value of this excellent book.

Hilarious!
Things change for a young Goose Girl when an old hag gives her a few gifts: she becomes as fair as the dawn, her hair is filled with gold dust which comes out upon brushing, and whenever she cries, diamonds fall to the ground rather than tears. Alexandria is then placed in a tower by a dim-witted prince who wants her hand in marriage, and she is then forced to choose between an evil king and the prince. She makes a deal that she will choose when she finishes her wedding gown, which is to be crafted from gold thread created from the gold dust from her hair. However, she undoes her stitches every night when no one looks, and sews very, very, very slowly, to buy time. Then one day, the servents forget to lock her door, and everything changes when she climbs to the top of the tower and her geese carry her away on a featherbed. She must face ogresses, armies, castles, impossibly long hair, and the return of the stupid prince. Will she ever survive this escape to freedom? Find out in this hilarious book. Recommended for fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, Finnegan Zwake Mysteries by Michael Dahl, fairy tales, and all hilarious books.

Tami's Review
Setting- Fairy tale, magical, medieval times with princes and muskets, castles and dungeons
Characters- Goose Girl, a.k.a.. Alexandria Fortunato, a girl who watches twelve geese as a legacy of her dead mother. She is enchanted with golden hair that produces gold dust when brushed and crystal tears when she cries. Prince of Dorloo- wishes for the Goose Girl to marry him. King of Gilboa- a usurper who also wishes to marry Goose Girl (more for her gold and diamonds than for her)
Plot- Goose Girl is captured and placed in a tower until she decides whether to marry the Prince of Dorloo or the King of Gilboa. Her twelve geese help her escape and deposit her near the home of three ogresses who tie her hair to the doorpost while she cooks for them. The Prince comes after her and is captured by the ogresses. They escape together procuring a beautiful ruby necklace. Goose Girl and the Prince are captured by the King's soldiers and put in a dungeon. Goose Girl's hair helps them escape but they are recaptured by the King. It is discovered the Goose Girl and the twelve geese are really the genuine heirs of the kingdom and the King is turned into a buzzard by the ugly fairy godmother. The geese are restored to human form and Alexandria will eventually marry the prince who is now King of Dorloo because his father dies.
Author eval.- This well written humorous expansion of a little known fairy tale is delightful. It is mostly the language that is used. It is very tongue in cheek and punny. I enjoyed it!
Audience- 9th grade and up would enjoy this tale.

Great Fun!!
The story of a goose girl who seems to be living in a fairy tale. An old hag gives her special gifts of great beauty, bewitched hair, and the ability to cry diamonds. All this wealth attracts a cruel King and a young Prince who seems to be a little simple. She has to come up with a way to hold off the two suitors, and plan an escape from her tower.

Her geese help her escape the tower, but then she gets caught by three ogresses. The Prince comes after her, gets caught too, so together they have to save each other. Together they go from peril to peril.

It is fun to pick out all the plot twists based on familiar old fairy tales. Even the geese are enchanted. I got so involved with the great characters that I didn't want the story to end.
